Why Upgrade Your Guitar Hardware?
Entry-level and mid-range guitars often come with generic hardware that's functional but far from optimal. The good news: the pickups, pots, jacks, tuners, and switches on most guitars are all replaceable — and upgrading them with quality parts can transform how your guitar plays, sounds, and feels. Best of all, most of these upgrades cost less than RM100 and can be done at home with basic tools.
1. Replace Your Input Jack (RM15–25)
If your guitar crackles when you move the cable or cuts out intermittently, a worn input jack is almost certainly the culprit. Swapping it for a genuine Switchcraft jack takes about 15 minutes and immediately eliminates signal noise. It's the highest-impact, lowest-cost upgrade you can make.

2. Upgrade Your Pots (RM20–40 each)
Generic pots feel scratchy, wear out quickly, and can introduce noise into your signal. Replacing them with genuine CTS potentiometers gives you a smoother sweep, lower noise floor, and longer service life. Match the resistance value to your pickups: 250K for single-coils, 500K for humbuckers.

3. Replace Your Strap Buttons with Strap Locks (RM30–60)
Losing a guitar to a strap button failure is every gigging musician's nightmare. Strap locks are a simple, inexpensive insurance policy. Install them once and never worry about your guitar hitting the floor again.
4. Upgrade Your Tuning Keys (RM50–90)
Cheap tuners are a major source of tuning instability. Upgrading to quality sealed tuning machines dramatically improves tuning stability and makes the guitar easier to tune quickly. Look for a direct-fit replacement that matches your existing screw holes to avoid drilling.

5. Replace Your Toggle or Selector Switch (RM20–40)
A scratchy or intermittent pickup selector switch is almost as common as a bad jack. Replacing it with a quality switch eliminates the crackle when you switch pickups mid-song. For Les Paul-style guitars, a Switchcraft toggle is the gold standard.

6. Add a String Guide or Retainer (RM10–20)
On Stratocaster-style guitars, the B and high-E strings often have insufficient break angle over the nut, causing tuning instability and string buzz. A properly fitted string guide or retainer fixes this instantly.
